I have always been curious about architecture. I'm intrigued that it is indicative of social aspirations and can even inspire ambitions. I'm surprised that it has the ability to change behaviour. I still feel intimidated when I walk in to atriums of large corporate buildings and yet feel instantly comforted in small timber huts.
However I have always felt disengaged with buildings. They are seemingly inanimate and dispassionate. Or are they? Have I misunderstood the stillness of buildings for lifelessness?
This project is an attempt to explore the soul of buildings. I know it exists. I see it in photographs of architecture bathed in light. I hear it in the creaking of a floorboard at 7am in the morning. I feel it in the grainy texture of cement. I smell it in rain soaked timber doors. Every house that I have lived in has had it's own quirks. Are these it's expressions?
