The air was dense and still and warm, as if it had been sitting in the same place for eons. The lazy afternoon light sashayed in through the dry, flaking window frame and caressed the wall opposite making it blush. It was going to rain soon. Perhaps it was the scent of the sultry air or perhaps it was the dark, overbearingly heavy cloud perched just above the eaves that gave it away.
There was a rumble and then... drip. A single drop tapped the clear window pane and trickled down to sit on the cill.
Only seconds after, the cloud broke. Millions of cool, exhilarating droplets came storming out of the sky and crashed into the ground forcing the trapped scents to burst out of the dusty earth where it had been trapped for days.
Suddenly everything was refreshed and alive. The leaves on the nearby banyan tree hopped as the droplets tickled their skins. The parakettes resting in the tree squawked with delight. Or maybe it was fear. The orchids lifted their spines to drink the nectar and the blue poppies closed their bodies as if shying from the touch of the droplets.
Life danced as the rain fell.
